Do you struggle with keeping your home clean and organized? You might have certain
times of the year when you buy new bins and declutter, but it doesn’t last more than a
few weeks. Now is a great time to re-stricture how you organize everything and create a
plan that helps you stay organized year-round.
Have a Place for Everything
This might be obvious advice that you have heard before, but it is actually a lot more
effective than you might think. If you don’t have a specific place for everything in your
home, no matter how inconsequential it might seem, your home is going to remain
cluttered and unorganized. Start by going through each room and look at each area of
that room. Is there anything out of place? Do you have items that tend to get moved
around? Are there drawers with nothing but junk? These are places to start moving
items and finding a specific place for them.
Make it Easier for Yourself
Make keeping your home organized as easy as possible. Get everything you need right
now, including storage bins, baskets, boxes, new furniture that stores more items,
labels, and anything else that you think might help.
This can be a gradual process, especially since these items can get expensive. You
might also want to start by using bins and baskets you already have, but finding a new
use for them. It is an excellent way to reduce waste and reuse items you would have
otherwise thrown away.
Declutter Your Home Often
Make it a point to go through your home every month or so to declutter spaces that are
often unorganized. You will probably find items that you don’t need anymore, or never
used as much as you thought you would. If you have items that never seem to have a
good place, or that have been stuck in a drawer for years, that is usually a good sign
that they aren’t as important or essential to you as you might have thought they were.
Do 5-10 Minute Cleaning Every Day
You don’t need to feel pressured to clean every weekend, where that is all you do for
your entire Saturday. Instead, choose just a few minutes a day to clean and organize
different spaces in your home. Set a timer for 10 minutes at a time, and just try to clean
and organize as quickly as you can in that period of time. You can also do this multiple
times a day when you have a spare few minutes.
